First, we use this medium to graciously wish Great Futarians (Members of Governing Council, Members of Staff and most importantly, Students); a happy and prosperous 2017. Thanking God for granting us the privilege to be among the living at this point in time for we are in no way better than those who left for the great beyond...
After two months of delayed resumption, it feels good to know that we are heading back to classes. A lot of speculations have evolved. Rumours generously flew around like swarm of bees. Different stories were told in diverse version. Propaganda were created and dished out in tens. Dissimilar schedules of school fees got disbursed like company quotation. As a palliative, we got a temporary website. In all, we are finally resuming today!
Great Futarians, while we cannot play possum to the fact that there is a challenge on ground, it is pertinent that we call ourselves to a serious order. Two wrongs they say, do not make a right. We -as a group, do not belong to any side of the divide. The Vice Chancellor is our father and members of the JAC are our parents.
For everyone coming to school with the aim of fomenting trouble or any form of unrest. We appeal that you have a change of mind. This is not our fight. As a matter of fact, both parties claimed that they are protecting the Students' interest and we have no moral justification to discredit their claims.
Whilst welcoming you back on campus, we enjoin you to go about your registration and other necessary activities peacefully. Avoid any form of provocation and incitement. Some sectors manned by members of the JAC might not be in operation yet. Do not be bothered as issues are being sorted out.
Remember that the secret of finishing well is starting prepared. Dust off celebration mood and reset to study mood. To our colleague in the last lap of the five years race, this could be our last chance to make our stay here count. It is no time to relax just yet. And to our colleagues that are fresh, we warmly welcome you to the Fantastic University of Terrific Achievements. Finally to everyone, do not just take our motto (technology for self reliance) for a slogan; make a lifestyle of it. Study to know and learn to pass.
We urge our parents and guardians to be of good cheer as we leave them. Praying that God will provide for their every need and keep them in safety as well. We implore them to give us -their children/ward, parental counsel against violence and vices. Not forgetting that boys and girls will need enough resource to stem the recession that has held economy captive. We know you are praying for us, please do not get weary of so doing.
To the warring parties, we say a big thank you for staging a fight for our sake. You could not have been more concerned about us. However, the war is now jejune and overdrawn. Please, it is high time you both threw up the white handkerchief. Be ready to make compromise. So long it is for the progress of the entire FUTA community.
Well, if just a word is enough for the wise, a thousand more had been said to make up for those who need more. Take that which applies to you and put it into judicious use. Whichever way, our successes are not negotiable.
Thank you all!
God bless Professor Adebiyi Gregory Daramola!
