Following the incident yesterday at futa, the Dean of Saat, Professor akindele and the Ex-SUG President, Comrade PopeJero React to the happening, calling it comatose, noting that JAC is against anything that would bring normalcy to futa and enjoin lecturers and students to support the management in resuming and putting things as scheduled.
Professor Akindele, Dean of SAAT in his report, giving full details of what transpired earlier said:
"Is it still unclear to people that JAC's action was against anything that will bring about normalcy to the University while the VC is still on seat? Is there still anyone void of understanding? The Ex-SUG President, PopeJero gave his statement too, urging students to come together and support the management in this unending war against jack as patience is not more golden, he said:
In case you don't know, the fact that we now enjoy electricity on campus angers JAC because the University Administration did it without them. Senate also met and announced resumption and date for commencement of online registration.
JAC was out to frustrate this by disallowing their members in CRC from working. The University Administration again went ahead to work on the online portal without JAC. JAC knew that Prof. Alese is deeply involved in the portal work and that makes him their target.
The portal was to become fully available this morning but JAC people went ahead to lock up Prof Alese's office in the students affairs division. Prof Alese called the Security and a carpenter to cut the lock while he rushed to ASUU COOP office.
Some students union leaders who had appointment to see him got to the students affairs to await him. JAC mobilised against them and called them thieves who were trying to break in. They also called on the policemen under the tree who also joined in beating the students, telling them to kneel down.
When Prof Alese got the information, he rushed to the scene and met the students being punished after the beatings. He recognized them as our students who had come to see him. He told them to get up but was pounced upon by JAC members and the Policemen who were punishing the students. He had some MOPOL men with him and quickly called the Commissioner of Police to report what her men were doing.
The commissioner then gave instruction that they should all come to SIB. The strategy of JAC is to create an atmosphere of fear among academics and students so that the new session will not commence.
As lecturers, we should resolve to go ahead with resumption as approved by Senate. We have done it before; and we should do it again. Now is the time to support the efforts of the University Administration to make FUTA work again. God bless FUTA."
"The darkest place in hell is reserved for those people who are neutral in term of crises "
The comatose rocking futa community is presently detrimental to the most Populated and the major stakeholder of the University which is the students.
The Primary aim for the Establishment of the University is to Enhance the growth of the country by equipping more young minds with Education which is the the most lethal weapon to change the world. It must be clearly stated that other aims are crucial such as Employment,Development etc" there can't be a university without the students."
It will be unwise for the students to stand in the position of judging either the JAC nor University Management because our judgement has not and will not bring peace to our University.
It is quite unfortunate to know that" Where two Elephants are fighting, it's the grass beneath that takes the lion share of the suffering"
"We can't antagonize and influence at the same time "... John Maxwell.
The progress of the University must be the responsibility of both the management, staff and students of the University. We will not sit and watch this issue to continue like this at the detriment of the students.
FUTA is a federal University and as such we will yearn until the federal government intervene into futa crisis especially the attention of the Commander in chief of all forces.
I believe at this point we are left with no option than to make our agitation known to the federal government by our facial participation in a peaceful protest with the presence of the media, security personnel and other important agencies that can help to communicate the voice of the students to the appropriate quarters as we are carefully watching as the issue get skyrocketing beyond where it was and our demand is that "WE WANT TO RESUME".
I believe every student in Futa has been enjoying peace without any form of truncation in our academic calendar. Futa students over the years have also been regarded as the most peaceful students in Nigeria and as such I want to appeal to security agencies not to be political about the issue on ground as our decision today will determine our destination tomorrow.
The University management has announced 3rd of Jan as our resumption date, I employ all the students of Futa to adhere and seize this as an opportunity for us to be able to converge in masses so as to be able to air our grievances with the support of our union leaders in ensuring we restore back peace to our University.
I believe my position will not be crucified by any of the parties concerned but to see the position as a progressive way of bringing Normalcy back our University.
I also want to implore all the alumni of Futa not to leave their Alma mater at this crucial moment as we will be needing their support in this struggle for the students which are the reason for the Establishment of the University.
Signed FOWOBAJE OLUWASEUN GPOPE JEROSUG PRESIDENT 2015/2016VOX POPULI VOX DEI".In conclusion we urge every Futarian not to panic and resume Jan 3rd as stated by the school management.
